The Flensburg landscape gardens are a significant historical park, connected with the “Old Cemetery,” the “Museum Hill,” and the “Old Town” to form a complete ensemble.
As part of the redesign of these historic green spaces, formerly known as Christiansen Gardens, sis developed the wayfinding system on behalf of WES Landscape Architecture and the city of Flensburg to provide orientation within the extensive park. Special emphasis was placed on a cohesive graphic and typographic appearance, utilizing earthy, muted tones that seamlessly integrate with the landscape design, paving, and the park’s attractions.
The technical and material design of the signage elements is based on openly visible steel profiles, powder-coated in anthracite gray, with flexibly usable panel surfaces for orientation maps, historical illustrations, and informational texts. In addition to the specially developed arrow signposts and stand profiles for the Flensburg landscape gardens, the much-acclaimed “edge sitters” are also used – a 15mm steel angle profile set directly on natural stone.
A centrally located technical building was transformed into an “Infopoint,” providing an overall overview with all the information, routes, and destinations in this beautiful and must-visit park.
