Wayfinding system Campus UKB

As a maximum care provider, the University Hospital Bonn UKB relies on new and innovative methods from medical research to provide the best possible outpatient and inpatient care. Around 350,000 outpatients, 50,000 inpatients and 40,000 emergency patients benefit from the close networking of patient care, research and teaching every year. In order to provide this large number of users with the best possible orientation, new paths are also being taken in the area of the guidance system for the clinic.

The grounds of the UKB are extensive and sometimes confusing, with many specialist areas and departments that need to be found. In order to enable patients and visitors to find their destination intuitively and without stress, SIS analyzed the usage structure of the entire site and developed a new designation and orientation system in cooperation and coordination with the hospital departments. The result is a clear site plan structured according to areas, building designations and colors and a signage concept in a new, modern orientation design. The implementation of the new wayfinding and orientation system will start at the beginning of 2022 with the re-labeling of around 90 signposts on the entire campus of the hospital. The next step will be to plan the interior signage for the new Heart Center at Bonn University Hospital.
