Airport Hamburg

With around 12 million passengers annually, Hamburg Airport is the fifth-largest airport in Germany. With the completion of the HAM 21 expansion program, it now boasts a modern infrastructure that can stand up to comparison within Germany and Europe.

In 2002, we commissioned the consortium consisting of sis sign information systems, Hamburg, and Horst Wicke Design, Kassel (Arge SHW), to develop a new passenger information system and a guide for information and advertising at Hamburg Airport.

After developing a comprehensive logistical and design concept, SHW successfully supported us in all expansion phases of HAM21—from the southern pier extension in 2003 and the opening of Airport Plaza in 2008, to the completion of the parking facilities in 2009. SHW will continue to be trusted as a competent planning office in the future.

In the ongoing process, we particularly valued the competent and cooperative working style and the proactive commitment with which SHW managed the complex information and wayfinding system as a cohesive content and formal entity across various areas.

The newly developed information system has impressed both us as the client and operator, as well as the passengers and visitors of Hamburg Airport, with its clear graphic structure, appealing design, and functional orientation concept.

By integrating orientation graphics, clocks, and screen layouts into the developed corporate design, a modern, cohesive, and distinctive appearance was created. The new information system enhances the image and value of the location, harmoniously fitting into the award-winning architecture of the airport. It contributes to customer satisfaction and loyalty, as evidenced by the very high survey ratings regarding wayfinding among our passengers and visitors.

We extend our thanks to ARGE SHW for their professional work and successful contribution to the new Hamburg Airport, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration.

With kind regards
Airport Hamburg GmbH
