Not only for visitors and patients, but also the UKE (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf) presented a real challenge with its decades-old campus, building, and wayfinding structure. Finding one’s way to and from the intended destinations was difficult. The existing signage was no longer adequate in terms of technology, design, and content, necessitating a complete redesign of the wayfinding and signage system. This included the development of a new campus map with a color-coding system based on the four cardinal directions: Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. Additionally, building identifications and map legends were adapted to be integrated into the patient wayfinding system.
