Kassel Clinic, with around 55,000 inpatients and 175,000 outpatients treated annually, is the largest municipal hospital in Hesse and the competence center for the region’s medical care. The existing wayfinding system no longer met the needs of the complex building structure, which had grown over the years, with varying building levels across the site. Additionally, the main entrance was temporarily relocated due to new constructions. sis was commissioned to rethink the wayfinding concept for both exterior and interior areas and to plan the signage elements for the main access routes. Initially, an analysis and inventory of the existing signage and on-site conditions were conducted. Based on this, the site with its buildings and levels was logically numbered, and the main routes were established. The central starting point for the wayfinding is the new reception building, House E, scheduled to open at the end of 2014. The design of the wayfinding system also included a new graphical appearance, ensuring intuitive orientation and destination finding through clear hierarchies with fewer colors and style elements.
